The CAPMT Student Evaluations program is a comprehensive non-competitive evaluative event.  The goals of the program are to develop and assess students’ knowledge of literature, technique, sight playing, music literacy and ear training.  Students should prepare three pieces for performance; although memorization is recommended, only two pieces must be memorized. 

  • Please see the CAPMT website for detailed information, including fees and repertoire guidelines.  A sample written test is available on the CAPMT website. 
  • Order the Music Literacy Handbook from the Student Evaluations State Chair, Karen Rogers.  Complete requirements for piano are contained in the CAPMT Student Evaluations Syllabus.  Requirements for violin, cello and flute may be obtained from the state chair.
  • Contact the district chair with further questions.  

Participating teachers are expected to assist in some way, such as grading tests, being a door monitor, or administering the aural training tests.
